Late-night taxi in The Hague: no night surcharge, but fixed booking hours

What a late or early ride costs with us, how late you can book online, and what to do if you need to leave after midnight or before 06:00. With measured travel times by day and by night.

Short answer

Future Taxi charges the same rate in the evening and at night as during the day: there is no night surcharge. Online you book rides with a pickup time from 06:00 to 23:55, at least three hours ahead on the same day. Outside those hours we drive on request by phone or WhatsApp. With quieter roads, late rides often cost a few euros less.

No night surcharge: one rate all day

The question I get most from people coming back late from a dinner, a concert or a late train: is it more expensive at night? No. Our 2026 rate is €4.31 base fare, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute, with a minimum of €30.00 per ride. That applies at 08:00 exactly as it does at 23:30. There is no night tariff, no weekend surcharge and no luggage surcharge. It says so in our terms and conditions too.

The fixed price of €120 for a ride between The Hague and Schiphol doesn't change with the time either. A flight landing at 22:40 costs the same €120 as one landing in the middle of the day.

What does change in the evening is the traffic. And because minutes count towards the price, you notice that on the bill, only in your favour.

Measured: travel time at rush hour, in the evening and early morning

To show how much difference that makes, I ran six rides I often drive in the evening through the same Google Routes calculation that produces the price on our booking page. Measured for Tuesday 6 October 2026 at 08:00, 17:00 and 23:00, and for Wednesday 7 October at 05:00. The travel time includes the traffic Google expects at that moment.

What that means for the price

The same rides, now with the price you pay under the 2026 rate, including 9% VAT. You can't book the 05:00 ride online (more on that below), but the rate is the same.

Why the difference is sometimes zero

Kijkduin shows the biggest gap: at 23:00 you pay €3.75 less than at 17:00, because you spend seven fewer minutes in the car. To Delft and Leiden the difference is €2.43 and €2.54. Those aren't big amounts, but they show a late ride is never more expensive.

Scheveningen costs €30.00 at any time. That's the minimum fare: for just over 5 km the meter would stay below it. A short ride still means driving out, driving you and driving back, and that's what the minimum covers. From about 8 km it no longer applies.

Rotterdam costs €81.04 at any time. For rides over 20 km a ceiling applies that only looks at distance, and the meter lands above it even at night. So you pay the ceiling, and traffic makes no difference. How the meter and the ceiling work together is explained on the prices page.

One more detail that matters for a late ride: the price you see when booking is calculated for the time you pick. Book for 23:00 and you get the 23:00 price, not the rush-hour one.

How late can you book online?

In the booking form you pick a pickup time from 06:00 up to and including 23:55. Two rules apply that you mostly notice in the evening.

The first: a same-day ride needs at least three hours' notice. If you want to be picked up at 23:30 after a show, book by 20:30 at the latest. It's easiest to book the return ride at the same time as the outbound one.

The second: a ride leaving before 09:00 the next morning has to be booked before 23:00 the evening before. Try later and the form stops you with a message that tomorrow morning's schedule is already set. That isn't a fault. Late in the evening I fix the first rides of the morning, and I can't promise a booking that comes in after that.

After midnight or before 06:00: on request

Future Taxi is one driver with one car. That's the reason for the booking hours: I can't drive through the night and be ready for a flight at six. A ride outside 06:00 to 23:55 is possible, but only on request and not through the form.

If you need to leave at 04:45 for an early flight from Schiphol, for example, call or message during the day, ideally a few days ahead. Then I check whether it fits around the other rides. Those early airport rides also cost the fixed €120, with no surcharge. How to work out when to leave home is in the article on departure times to Schiphol.

A ride in the middle of the night that you decide on at 01:00 is something I can't guarantee. If you already know it'll be late, arrange it in advance. Then you know where you stand.

Practical: getting picked up late in the evening

You get 5 minutes of free waiting time after the agreed pickup time. If an evening runs over, send a WhatsApp and I'll shift along if I can. Airports are different: there you get 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing, and the pickup time moves with a delayed flight if you give your flight number.

Arriving on a late train at The Hague Central Station? There's no fixed taxi rank for our car there. We agree a pickup point in advance, explained here.

You pay in the car when you're dropped off, or you pay for the whole ride in advance. If you do the latter, the amount is a fixed price and you never pay extra afterwards. The car takes 4 passengers and 2 large suitcases, with no surcharge in the evening either.

How to book a late ride

On the booking page, enter your pickup address, destination, date and time. You'll see the price for that time straight away, calculated the same way as the tables above. If your time falls outside 06:00 to 23:55, or the form no longer lets you book, get in touch by phone or WhatsApp. For rides to and from the airport, see the airport page.

Frequently asked questions

Is a taxi more expensive at night in The Hague?

Not with Future Taxi. There is no night surcharge and no weekend surcharge: €4.31 base fare, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute, with a €30.00 minimum. Because the roads are quieter, a late ride is often a few euros cheaper than at rush hour.

How late can I book a taxi?

Online you can pick a pickup time up to 23:55. Same-day rides need at least three hours' notice, so for a 23:30 ride book by 20:30.

Can I book a taxi before 6 in the morning?

Not through the form, but on request by phone or WhatsApp. Arrange it during the day, ideally a few days ahead. Rides leaving before 09:00 the next morning must be booked before 23:00 the evening before.

Does a taxi to Schiphol cost more at night?

No. The fixed €120 price between The Hague and Schiphol applies at any time, including early flights and late landings.

Can I still get a taxi after midnight?

Only if it's been arranged in advance. Future Taxi is one driver with one car, so a ride you decide on in the middle of the night can't be guaranteed.
