Taxi or Uber/Bolt in The Hague? Where the difference lies
Last updated: September 11, 2026

Not a dig at the competition, just the practical differences that matter for your ride.
Short answer
The main difference between Future Taxi and apps like Uber or Bolt in The Hague: you see the price when you book, fixed to the meter rate, instead of dynamic pricing that can rise at busy times. You also always ride the same electric BYD Seal, and questions get you an actual person on the phone, not a chatbot.
Price certainty upfront
A taxi and an app-based ride solve the same problem: getting from A to B without driving yourself. The difference isn't the destination, it's a few practical choices before it.
At Future Taxi you see the price when you book, calculated from your address and live traffic information, not only after a ride has already been assigned. If you'd rather avoid surprises, for a ride that gets reimbursed through work, say, that's a reason to book ahead instead of opening an app on the spot.
| Future Taxi | Ride app | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Fixed upfront, calculated on your own address | Known only once a car is assigned, higher when busy |
| To Schiphol | €120.00 fixed, in both directions and whatever the hour | Depends on supply and demand at that moment |
| Certainty | The ride is in the schedule, we come | If the driver drops out, the search starts again |
| Punctuality | We are at your door five minutes before the agreed time | The wait depends on who happens to be nearby |
| Car | Always the same electric BYD Seal, clean and free of smoke | You find out which car it is when it pulls up |
| Driver | The same driver, Dutch and English, no phone calls on the way | A different driver every ride, so a different style and language too |
| Contact | Phone or WhatsApp, a person who knows your ride | Through the app |
Always the same car
We also always drive the same, brand-new electric BYD Seal: you know in advance what car you're getting into, instead of it varying ride to ride.
And it is not just any car. Spacious and comfortable, with leather upholstery and a panoramic roof, room for four passengers and two large suitcases, and no surcharge for luggage. Because there is one car and one driver, every ride starts in a car that is clean and does not smell of smoke.
Driving electric is something you notice on the way. No droning engine, no gear changes and no exhaust fumes, so you can take a call, work, or do nothing at all.
Personal contact, not a chatbot
And because we're a small team, questions get you an actual person on the phone or WhatsApp, not a chatbot.
Especially relevant for business rides
For business rides it often matters most: a VAT-itemised invoice comes standard with every ride, handy if someone else needs to approve or book it for the books.
What a fixed price upfront actually means
The price you see when booking is not an estimate made afterwards. It is calculated from your real pickup and destination address and from the expected driving time at that hour, using the 2026 meter rate: a €4.31 base fare, €3.17 per kilometre and €0.52 per minute, with a €30.00 minimum per ride.
To Schiphol it is simpler still. From anywhere in The Hague and its surroundings a fixed price of €120.00 applies, in both directions. The time of day makes no difference and neither does the traffic. If the meter fare for your address works out lower than that amount, you pay the lower price.
You fix a time, not a car nearby
A ride app looks for a car that is close by right now. With us you fix a time, and that is a different kind of arrangement. For a flight or an appointment that is the difference between hoping someone will be driving later and knowing it is in the schedule.
There is a trade-off, and we say it plainly: it does not work spontaneously. For a ride on the same day we need at least three hours, and we pick up between 06:00 and 23:00. If you want to leave right now, an app is quicker. If you know a day ahead, fixing it in advance is calmer.
Booking a return trip? You add it in the same form.
What cancelling costs
Up to 24 hours before the ride you cancel free of charge and get the full amount paid upfront back. If you settle the ride in the car, you have paid nothing upfront and cancelling costs you nothing after that either. A ride coming into The Hague works differently: if we collect you outside our area you pay half upfront, and cancelling within 24 hours we retain 25% of the fare.
Closer to the ride that rises: within 3 hours we retain 25% of the fare and within 2 hours the whole ride, because by then the driver is on the way or already standing by. Never more than you actually paid: if you paid nothing upfront, we retain nothing either.
Frequently asked questions
Is booking with Future Taxi more predictable than a ride-hailing app?
Future Taxi's price is fixed upfront based on your address and live traffic. Ride-hailing apps can raise prices at busy times (surge pricing); Future Taxi always uses the same meter rate.
Does Future Taxi use different cars, like an app does?
No, always the same electric BYD Seal, so you know in advance what car you're getting into.
Can I book on short notice, like with an app?
Yes, online with at least 3 hours' notice for a same-day ride, between 06:00 and 23:00. Want to leave earlier or outside those hours? Send a WhatsApp or call: that is often still possible.
Is Future Taxi suitable for reimbursed business rides?
Yes, every ride comes with a VAT-itemised invoice, handy for bookkeeping.
What does a ride to Schiphol cost compared with a ride app?
With us €120.00 fixed, in both directions and whatever the time of day, or the meter fare if that works out lower for your address. With a ride app the amount depends on supply and demand at the moment you book.
How many passengers and suitcases fit?
Four passengers with two large suitcases. More luggage or a bigger group? Call or message us and we'll arrange a colleague with a larger car.
